What is an arc fault protector?
Electric fire is the "first killer" threatening the safety of people's lives and property. According to statistics, nearly half of the fires in China are caused by improper use of electricity. With the improvement of economic level, more and more attention is paid to electrical safety, and people begin to choose to install circuit breakers to protect electrical safety. However, the traditional circuit breaker only protects the overload and short circuit in the electrical circuit, but cannot detect the fault arc, which is the culprit of electrical fire.
Due to poor line contact or insulation damage, a "bad arc" with large energy and high temperature - fault arc is generated in the electrical circuit, which is not easy to be found but is easy to cause equipment damage and even fire.
Arc fault protection device is a kind of built-in detection system that monitors the voltage and current waveform of the fault arc in the circuit at all times, and compares it with the set value. When the voltage and current waveform meeting the requirements exceeds the action value, the fault circuit is cut off, and the fault arc is extinguished before the fault arc causes fire.
Why are arc fault protectors installed?
In low-voltage distribution system, terminal sockets and lighting lines are mostly buried, and the insulation layer of the line is easy to be damaged in the process of laying, threading, decoration and reconstruction, thus losing the insulation protection function; In addition, there are many contacts and joints of the end line, and they are all concealed works. Due to the high resistance of the fault arc, a small current will generate enough energy at the fault point to cause the line insulation damage and failure. Therefore, when the fault current has not reached the action current of protective appliances such as miniature circuit breaker (MCB) or leakage protection circuit breaker (RCB0), ignition has occurred at the fault arc point, causing electrical fire. From the above analysis, it can be seen that the MCB, RCB0 and other protective appliances of the terminal line protection are invalid for the protection of the arc fault.
