New industry Technology regarding to Bussmann fuse, ABB breakers, Amphenol connectors, HPS transformers, etc.
DC power distribution has staged a remarkable comeback in data centers. After decades of AC-only architectures, the industry is rediscovering DC's advantages: simpler power paths, higher efficiency by avoiding multiple AC-DC conversions, and easier integration with renewable energy and battery storage. Today's hyperscale and colocation data centers operate DC distribution at three primary voltage tiers, each with distinct protection requirements.

Data Center Protection Architecture by Voltage Tier
Voltage Tier | Typical Application | Protection Device | Bussmann Product |
DC 48V | ICT equipment, telecom | DC-MCB 2-pole | NZM, PL10-DC |
DC 240V | HVDC distribution bays | DC-MCB or fuse bkup | NZM + FWX |
DC 336V | Battery string distribution | DC-MCB fused | NZM + Bussmann fuse |
AC 400V | UPS input/output | ACB/MCCB | IZM9C, PDC |
AC 230V | PDU output | MCB | Xpole-x, PL9/PL10 |
DC 48V has been the backbone of telecom and ICT power since the telephone exchange era. Modern data centers feed network switches, server motherboards (via intermediate bus converters), and access points from 48V rails. Protection typically uses DC miniature circuit breakers (DC-MCB) rather than fuses because DC 48V fault currents are limited by server power supply input filtering, breakers provide resettable protection, and ICT equipment redundancy (N+1, 2N) reduces the consequence of individual circuit faults. Bussmann's NZM and PL10-DC series provide DC-MCB protection up to 63A at DC 440V.
DC 240V is used in European and Asian data center markets, generated from 480Vac input via AC-DC rectifiers. For DC 240V distribution bay protection, Bussmann recommends DC-MCB rated for DC 440V minimum in 2-pole series connection. NZM series provides 400-630A frame sizes with 25 kA DC interrupting capacity. For breakers with insufficient DC interrupting rating, Bussmann FWX series (250 Vdc, up to 800A) serves as fuse backup protection behind the DC-MCB.
DC 336V (nominal range 300-400V) is emerging as the preferred distribution voltage for battery-integrated data center architectures. Battery strings connect directly to the DC bus without intermediate conversion, enabling UPS-plus-storage systems with efficiency ratings exceeding 97%. Protection at the 336V tier requires DC-MCB rated for DC 440V minimum (derated for 336V) and fuses for battery string protection. Bussmann BS88 FE/EET series (500 Vdc, 50 kA) provides an ideal match for 336V battery string protection: 500V rating gives 49% voltage margin above 336V, and current ratings up to 200A per string cover most BESS string configurations.
Main LV Switchboard (400-690 Vac): Eaton IZM9C series ACB, 800-4000A, 690 Vac, 50-100 kA interrupting. Distribution Subfloor: PDC series MCCB, 63-800A, 690 Vac, 36-70 kA. PDU Output (230 Vac): PL9 (6 kA) and PL10 (10 kA) series MCBs for server rack circuits. Modular prefab data centers (Huawei Cloud Songshan Lake, Tencent Qingyuan T-block) require protection solutions that can be pre-installed in factory-configured modules -- Bussmann's LZMN busbar systems enable pre-wired, pre-tested power distribution modules for rapid on-site deployment.
